About:

Sharona Halman is a multidisciplinary artist working in sculpture, installation and paintings. She is a graduate of Hamidrasha Faculty of Art, Beit Berl College, Israel (2017).

Artist Statement:

In my works, I use sculpture, sketching and painting. I try to examine the relationships that form between shapes, lines, and spaces. I find great interest in the passages between them; in the presence of the spaces that are created and in the creation of various kinds of interactions and seemingly intractable connections.

I am driven by the desire to create a world through only formalistic means and by the physicality of things. I choose to use trite, banal and worn elements- lines, circles, bowls- because of the impossibility of them, out of ambition to create a new life in them, a new thought. Freedom and planning are different and inherent dimensions of the creative process. Every work serves as a habitat in which I examine the potential development of lines, shapes, and spaces in the same situation. The lines, shapes, and spaces are the signs of the language in which I create.

Habitats are the main theme I research and interested in life allowing environments. I find inspiration in my childhood, the time I started thinking about the conditions, which allow a live creature to live in foreign conditions. My aim is to perpetuate, freeze, moments in which I dictate the habitat, and match a living organ for it, in harmony. I believe, and strive, that the object is a result of its bedding, and together they form joint aesthetics. During my working process, I am interested in establishing a relationship with the substance, and try to create idiosyncratic codes, basing on observing nature, and contemplating on my place in it.
